Anatomy of Taiji Quan. Part I: Tuning
When we start practicing Taiji Quan, we must first lay the groundwork for the steps that follow. The traditional Chinese term for this preparatory phase is “waking up the five tigers”: the first tiger is the mind, the second is the breath, the third is the legs, the fourth is the waist, and the fifth tiger is the stomach.
The complex presented in this film reveals the basic principles of the taijiquan practice, which are vital for further advancing and mastering the art of Taiji. This fundamental complex can help the practitioners to understand how the muscles and the skeletal system function properly, and how to interact with the five basic support systems in the body – both at rest and in motion.
No special training is necessary for the mastering of this complex. This technique is a necessary prerequisite for mastering the Anatomy of Taiji Quan. Part II: Synchronization, where these principles are studied in motion.
Video duration: 1 hour 21 minutes.
